This programme consists of two elements, the legal framework and the theory of de-escalation. It supports staff to gain a better understanding of their rights and responsibilities and to cope with all levels of behaviour.
For many people, understanding the triggers of challenging behaviour and how to deal with it is essential if they are to carry out their daily duties safely. It focusses on de-escalation and intervention at an early stage to reduce the need for restrictive practices. It is underpinned by clear articulation and behavioural theory, law and best practise.
This is a 3-hour programme which can be delivered either during or at the end of the school day. This programme should be updated every 2 years. Programmes delivered at the end of the school day are delivered as 2 X 1.5 hour sessions.
This programme is a pre-requisite to any physical de-escalation training.
